Arlington: Pioneer Day to be celebrated
Pioneer Day at the Stillaguamish Valley Pioneer Museum is set for 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday at Pioneer Hall, 20722 67th Ave. NE.
It's a free, fun day for children of all ages. The museum offers hands-on activities. People can milk a cow, wash clothes, work a 19th century sewing machine, churn butter, grind wheat and view old-fashioned toys and cedar shake shingles.
Exhibits will be open for viewing and visitors can chat with interpreters.
Admission is $5 for each adult and $2 for each child younger than 12.
The museum was built by the Stillaguamish Valley Pioneer Association to preserve artifacts of the north and south forks of the Stillaguamish River valley, keeping alive the heritage of the original homesteaders of the area.

Oso: Fundraiser set for fire department
The Oso Fire Department has scheduled its annual salmon bake and auction fundraiser for 4 p.m. Saturday at the fire station, 21824 Highway 530.
Auction items often include nursery plants, wood crafts, benches, hotel stays, loads of gravel and other locally donated goods.
Dinner is a salmon, corn, salad and bread for $10. Kids younger than 12 eat for $5. All proceeds go to the Oso Fireman's Association Equipment Fund.

Snohomish: Vacancy on commission
The city is looking for candidates to fill a planning commission vacancy.
The commission is responsible for making recommendations to the City Council about land use and comprehensive plan issues. Candidates must live within the city's urban growth area boundary.
The council is scheduled to appoint the successful candidate at its Oct. 16 meeting. The six-year unpaid position expires in July 2017.
All applications must be submitted to the city clerk by 4 p.m. Sept. 28 at City Hall, 116 Union Ave. Applications are available at City Hall or they can also be downloaded from the city's website at www.ci.snohomish.wa.us.

Stanwood: Car show raises funds for seniors
The annual Stanwood Car Show, hosted by the Stanwood Community and Senior Center will be 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the center, 7430 276th St. NW.
Proceeds benefit senior programs.
