Associated Press
BREMERTON -- The two brush fires that broke out near Bremerton National Airport were small but firefighters from two counties responded quickly to make sure they didn't get any bigger in tinder-dry conditions.
The Kitsap Sun reported that Mason County fire districts attacked the southern fire Thursday afternoon while Kitsap County districts hit the northern fire adjacent to the airport. The fires covered about 2 acres each. Fire officials are concerned about danger with multiple large wildfires burning in Eastern Washington.
The newspaper said dozens of drivers on State Highway 3 were trapped for more than an hour once fire crews and their trucks began attacking the flames on both sides. The fires were within a half mile of each other.
The cause was undetermined.
