Silvertips shocker: Ryan Murray named captain

Yes, that headline is facetious. But indeed, Ryan Murray has been named Everett's captain for the second straight year.

Murray, Everett's star defenseman who is entering his 19-year-old campaign, becomes just the second player in franchise history to be named Everett's captain at the beginning of consecutive seasons -- Zack Dailey was named captain in both 2008 and 2009.

Of course, Murray's tenure as captain isn't expected to last as long as Dailey's. Murray is still expected to join the Columbus Blue Jackets once the NHL labor situation is resolved.

Forwards Ryan Harrison, Cody Fowlie and Manraj Hayer were named the alternate captains. I guess one could say the real question is which one of those guys becomes the captain when Murray is gone.
