The fall chinook fishery on the Hanford Reach section of the Columbia River is off to a strong start, particularly considering the traditional peak of the run is yet to come.
State biologist Paul Hoffarth in Pasco said department personnel checked an average of 1.1 chinook per boat on the Reach last week — a very good catch rate for this early in the season.
