Arlington: Bands to wash cars Saturday
The Arlington High School bands plan the 16th annual Car Wash-athon and bake sale from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday in front of the school gym, 18821 Crown Ridge Blvd.
Students collect pledges for the total number of cars they can wash that day, so there is no charge for the car wash. However, people who want to donate can do so at the event.
Friendship Walk fundraiser Saturday
Walk, volunteer or get your car washed at the fifth annual Friendship Walk and Car Wash on Saturday at the Legion Park Gazebo, 114 N. Olympic Ave. Entertainment, prizes and lunch are planned.
Registration for the walk opens at 11 a.m. and it starts at 1 p.m. Suggested donation is $25 a walker and $10 for the car wash, which is from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Cenex Co-op Supply, 101 S. Olympic Ave.
The fundraiser benefits Village Community Services for disabled adults and its music and arts program.
Camano: Smith to speak Tuesday
Camano Island Women’s Republican Club offers a chance to hear 10th Legislative District Rep. Norma Smith speak at noon Tuesday at the Lost Lake Club House, 1469 Lost Lake Drive, Camano Island.
Smith, who is running for re-election, plans to talk about economic development and the governor’s panel on ocean acidification.

Find area hotspots for watching birds
Pam Pritzl of Skagit Audubon and Roxie Rochat plan to lead a free tour of Camano and Stanwood birding hot spots from 9 a.m. to noon Sunday. Destinations include Eide Road, English Boom Historical Park and Iverson Beach Preserve.
Meet at Terry’s Corner Park and Ride, 860 N. Sunrise, behind Camano Island Coffee Roasters to stage carpools and get directions. Dress in layers appropriate for the weather, wear sturdy shoes and bring binoculars. No dogs allowed.

Lake Stevens: Donate for education
The Lake Stevens Education Foundation is planning its third annual Calling for Kids Campaign from Oct. 1- 4.
All funds will support the Foundation’s Innovative Teaching and Learning grants. Tax-deductible donations can be made by visiting www.LkStevensEF.org, mailing a check to LSEF, PO Box 1495, Lake Stevens, WA 98258 or dropping off it off at any Lake Stevens school.
The foundation’s goal is to raise $40,000.

Stanwood: Democrats set Friday fundraiser
The 10th Legislative District Democrats have scheduled a fundraiser for 7 to 8 p.m. Friday at 27116 90th Ave. NW, Stanwood.
Artist and author Jack Gunter plans to read from his most recent book. A drawing for several of Gunter’s books is planned, refreshments will be served and donations will be collected.
