SEATTLE -- Seattle's Museum of Flight is expecting more than 40 astronauts, cosmonauts and mission controllers to help them celebrate this weekend. The large gathering including astronaut Buzz Aldrin includes several public events and the museum's annual gala.
On Friday, the museum will take possession of the historic documents of Seattle native George Abbey, who is a former director of NASA's Johnson Space Center. The 111 boxes document his NASA career from 1964 to 2003.
On Sunday, the Charles Simonyi Space Gallery will be temporarily open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., for a preview of the Space Shuttle Trainer exhibit. After Sunday, the Space Gallery closes until the exhibit's grand opening on Nov. 10.
Aldrin will be part of a panel discussion Sunday morning at the museum, along with other astronauts and mission controllers.
Cosmonauts and astronauts will share a presentation that afternoon on international space programs.
