Scouting report
This games matches the top two teams in the Western Conference. San Jose (17-6-6, 57 points) also leads the race for the Supporters Shield, which goes to the team with the best record in Major League Soccer. Seattle (13-6-9, 48 points) is fifth in the Supporters Shield standings.
The Sounders are 3-0-2 over their past five league games. The Earthquakes are 3-1-1.
San Jose leads the league in goals (60), average goals scored (2.07), assists (62), shots on goal (162) and goal differential (plus 25). Individually, Chris Wondolowski leads the league in goals with 21.
Sounders goalkeeper Michael Gspurning leads MLS in goals-against average at 0.76.
San Jose already has clinched a playoff spot. Seattle can clinch with a win or draw today.
Quakes midfielder Joey Gjertsen (knee) is out. Sounders' midfielders Mauro Rosales (quadriceps) and Christian Tiffert (ankle) are probable, and forward David Estrada (foot) is questionable. Eddie Johnson will miss the game because of yellow-card accumulation. Fredy Montero is one caution away from the same one-game suspension.
