A wine tasting and silent auction is planned for 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at SoJen Cellars, 2818 Hewitt Ave. in Everett, to benefit Healing the Children's Oregon and Western Washington chapter, a Mukilteo-based nonprofit.
Proceeds will help send four medical teams to Guatemala, Nepal and Vietnam to provide audiology services, ear, nose and throat surgery, podiatry, hand and burn care, women's health, education and orthopedics.

Run: Raise funds for cancer research
Glacier Peak High School's Future Business Leaders of America club plans a fundraiser for the Susan G. Komen Foundation from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 6 at the high school field, 7401 144th Place SE, Snohomish.
Participants will run as many laps as they can to raise the funds for breast cancer research. The group requests a minimum $10 donation per person. Vigil: Help pancreatic cancer research
Edmonds will turn purple on Sunday with a PurpleLight National Vigil for Hope to call attention to pancreatic cancer, the fourth-leading cause of cancer death in the country.
"The vigil gives us the opportunity to come together to gain both comfort and encouragement from one another while drawing attention to pancreatic cancer," said Joan Mabbutt, of Edmonds, in a statement. Mabbutt lost her husband, Buck, to the disease in 2004 and is hosting the event. The PurpleLight event is an effort of the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network and starts promptly at 7 p.m. at the Point Edwards Charter Club, 85 Pine St.

Contribute: Cocoon House benefit
An Evening in Silk, the annual dinner and auction fundraiser for Cocoon House, is set for 5:30-9 p.m. Oct. 11 at Tulalip Resort Casino, 10200 Quil Ceda Blvd., Tulalip.
Cocoon House is an Everett-based nonprofit that serves homeless and at-risk teens in Snohomish County. Television personality John Curley will be the auctioneer. Tickets are $75 per person or $750 for a table of 10. Discounted hotel rooms also are available.

Perform: Scream Team zombies wanted
The Haunted Nightmare at Craven Farm is looking for actors to be part of its Scream Team this October. A portion of the proceeds from the Halloween seasonal event benefits the Boys and Girls Clubs of Snohomish County. Teens can earn community service hours and join for one show or all nine. Shows start Oct. 5.

The Mill Creek Art and Beautification Advisory Board has three open seats. Board members focus on special events and projects that enhance aesthetics in the city, including the selection and placement of art.
