Marysville Getchell’s Davis Lura named NFL high school co-coach of the week

Friday was already going to be a big day for Marysville Getchell head football coach Davis Lura.

A few hours before the big game against rival Marysville Pilchuck it got a little sweeter. Lura, along with Hoquiam coach Jason Ronquillo, was named NFL high school coaches of the week by the Seahawks and Sterling Bank.

Lura has guided his team to a 2-2 record this season, which includes the first wins in the program’s history. Getchell, which beat Stanwood 24-8 last week, didn’t win a game in its first season last year.

RENTON, Wash. – The Seattle Seahawks and Sterling Bank today announced Marysville-Getchell High School’s Davis Lura and Hoquiam High School’s Jason Ronquillo as week four “NFL High School Coaches of the Week.”

Lura led his team to a 24-8 victory over the visiting Stanwood Spartans in their league victory on Friday, September 21, improving their record to 2-2. Marysville-Getchell will next face Marysville-Pilchuck (3-1) in a 3A Wesco – North matchup on Friday, September 28.

Ronquillo’s Hoquiam Grizzlies moved to 4-0 after routing the host Rochester Warriors in their league matchup on Friday, September 21, by a score of 54-7. The Grizzlies will next face the Castle Rock Rockets (2-2) in a non-league contest on Friday, September 28.

Now in its 17th season, the NFL High School Coach of the Week program is a partnership between the Washington State Football Coaches Association, the Seattle Seahawks and Sterling Bank.

Following the season, one coach will receive the Jim Ennis Award for High School Coach of the Year. The 2012 NFL High School Coach of the Year for Washington State will receive a $2,000 cash grant.
