It's also the first weekend of Leavenworth's Oktoberfest, which is always the first three weekends of the month. Plans are continuing despite the smoke from the wildfires, but organizers say to check www.leavenworthoktober fest.com/ for updates.
For something a little different, you might want to book an on-the-water celebration with Waterways Cruises in Seattle.
The 2˝-hour floating festival includes a German buffet and specialty beers, all to the tunes of a polka band.
The yacht cruises on Lake Union and Lake Washington are 6:30 to 9 p.m. Friday, departing from South Lake Union Park, 860 Terry Ave. N., Seattle; and 6:30 to 9 p.m. Oct. 6, departing from Kirkland Marina Park, 100 Kirkland Ave., Kirkland.
Tickets are $52, $46 for seniors and military, and $27 for children ages 5 to 12. Children 4 and younger are free.
Make reservations at www.WaterwaysCruises.com or call 206-223-2060.
