Stealth add seven, including third-round 'steal'
“To get (Mitch Jones) at number 21 is a steal,” Stealth head coach Chris Hall said in a press release. “We came in looking for another weapon on the left side and there was no way we could pass up on a guy with his talent and the types of numbers he’s put up.”
Some NLL mock drafts had Jones being selected in the first round.
Before the Stealth added Jones, they had three selections in the second round and defense was the theme, adding defensemen Tyler Garrison (No. 11 overall), Bill Hostrawser (No. 12 overall) and Justin Pychel (No. 19 overall).
We feel like we have a lot of firepower up front, so Garrison and Hostrawser were two defensive players that were high on our list,” Hall said. “They add some youth and grit and will really fight with our returning veterans for playing time.”
The Stealth also selected defenseman Tim Henderson with the No. 23 overall selection, left-handed transition player TJ Cowx at No. 30 overall selection and right-handed forward Kyle Buchanan at No. 48.
“I’m really ecstatic about our draft class,” said Stealth general manager Doug Locker. “We’re bigger, meaner and deeper than we were yesterday and we caught some breaks to have guys fall to us that we didn’t expect. It’s going to make for a tremendous training camp.”
The seven draftees will compete with the rest of the Stealth’s roster for a spot on the team at training camp, which begins in December.
