Brush fire near Lynnwood causes long backups on I-5

EVERETT -- A large brush fire along northbound I-5 on Monday slowed the afternoon commute between Lynnwood and Everett.

The fire was reported about 2:40 p.m., said Leslie Hynes, spokeswoman for Snohomish County Fire District 1. It stretched about a quarter-mile between 164th Street SW and 128th Street SW.

Crews got the fire under control by about 4 p.m. and were working on hot spots, Hynes said. Some lanes were closed to make room for the fire vehicles.

That triggered a sizeable backup along I-5.

The cause of the fire was under investigation. No injuries were reported.
