MARYSVILLE -- A man was hospitalized Monday after a landscaping accident at a Marysville-area home.

The accident happened just before 1:30 p.m. in the 3000 block of 79th Avenue NE, just north of Soper Hill Road, Marysville Fire Marshal Tom Maloney said.

The man, who appeared to be in his 70s, was operating a small excavator when he somehow became pinned under the machinery, Maloney said. A piece of the equipment also impaled his ankle.

Firefighters used hydraulic rescue equipment to lift up the excavator and cut the man free.

He was taken to a local hospital. His injuries weren't believed to be life-threatening.
