Front Porch: Voter registration deadline approaching

The Nov. 6 general election is just around the corner.

Next Monday is the deadline to register to vote or update your registration online by going to www.vote.wa.gov.

Ballots for voters overseas or in the military already have been mailed. All other ballots are scheduled to be mailed Oct. 18.

"Coal crossroads:" TVW's Anita Kissee visited communities around the state this summer researching the controversy over coal exports.

"Coal Crossroads" is scheduled to premiere on the channel at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday. A four-minute trailer for the hour-long documentary is available at http://tinyurl.com/CoalPreview.



Parenting class: The Stanwood Camano Community Resource Center is offering a parenting class, "Developing Capable Young People," presented by Karen McMillan and Janet Mott.

The class, for parents of children of all ages, aims to give people the tools needed to help their children face life's challenges.

The six-week class starts Oct. 1 from 6 to 8 p.m. A free meal is to be provided at 5:30 p.m., along with free child care.

Registration fee is $10, which includes class materials. Scholarships are available. Space is limited.
