As it was put to me today at practice, Ryan Harrison is now out of jail.
Everett gets Harrison, its leading returning scorer, back Wednesday against Tri-City after the overage winger sat out the first four games of the season because of suspension. Harrison was given a charging major penalty during Everett’s final playoff game last season against Tri-City, then was assessed a four-game suspension that carried over to this season.
Harrison also missed the entire preseason because of a bout of mononucleosis. However, he’s been practicing at full speed pretty much since opening day, and he said he regained the 10 pounds he lost and is feeling 100 percent healthy. Needless to say he’s itching to get back into the lineup.
Getting Harrison back should provide another boost to the Tips, perhaps a similar boost to the one that occurred when Manraj Hayer returned to the lineup. Harrison is a good skater who covers a lot of the ice, he has a physical edge (which he may have to keep in check now that he’s likely to be viewed as a repeat offender should he pick up any more major penalties), and he’s a point producer.
Perhaps most importantly Harrison is back skating on a line with Kohl Bauml and Cody Fowlie, a combination that was good for the Tips during the second half of last season. The Tips are hoping they can rekindle the magic, as Bauml and Fowlie have yet to get things going offensively this season. Everett has one line that’s been flying lately in Hayer, Joshua Winquist and Tyler Sandhu. A second dangerous trio would do the Tips no end of good.
