Lynnwood man receives highest Moose honor
A Lynnwood man received the Pilgrim Degree of Merit, the highest honor that can be bestowed upon a member of the Loyal Order of Moose. Gilbert Loomis, a member of Snoqualmie Valley Lodge No. 1666, Loyal Order of Moose, was summoned June 2 to the conferral at the House of God at Mooseheart, Ill.
The degree, currently held by less than one-half of 1 percent of the Moose members, is the order’s highest reward for exceptional devotion to the principles and ideals of caring for children and senior members.
Members receiving this honor are entitled to wear a much-coveted gold blazer. Loomis is expected to receive his blazer at the Snoqualmie Valley lodge at 5 p.m. Oct. 20.
The Moose is an international organization of men and women, dedicated to caring for children and seniors, bringing communities closer together, and celebrating life. The organization operates over 1,600 Moose Centers throughout North America, Great Britain, and Bermuda, providing members with family, social and sports activities.
Sailors tackle duties in Lake Stevens, Snohomish
Twenty-three sailors from the USS Nimitz volunteered their time on projects in Lake Stevens and Snohomish on Sept. 22.
Eleven of those sailors cleared up a blackberry thicket outside the Lake Stevens Police Department on that Saturday morning. The other dozen sailors worked on projects in Snohomish.
“There are a lot of good guys in Navy uniforms who are willing to serve in the communities they live in,” said Pat Thomas, a veteran who lives in Lake Stevens who helped with public outreach on the effort.
