That time seems like another lifetime now.
The University of Washington sophomore defensive tackle said Monday that his near-decision to attend Oregon would have been a mistake.
"I was young, a high schooler, pretty much attracted by the jerseys and all this and all that," the former Auburn High School star said Monday, as the Huskies prepared for Saturday's game at Oregon. "You grow up and become veteran-like."
Shelton, who was one of the top recruits in the state of Washington from the Class of 2011, added that he is glad to be at UW but that he still respects the Oregon football program.
"Oregon's a good team," he said, "and I'm excited to play against them."
