Granite Falls continues to explore sheriff’s contract

If you haven’t heard, there’s another big kerfuffle in Granite Falls over the city exploring the idea of contracting with the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office for police services.

We’ve seen similar controversies over such talks in Snohomish, Mill Creek and elsewhere over the past few years.

There’s really not much news today.

City officials have been talking about the idea for years. On Wednesday night, the council voted to continue negotiations, City Clerk Darla Reese said.

“The vote ended 3-2 with the mayor breaking the tie,” she said Thursday.

The council did not vote to enter the contract, which is how some folks are interpreting it.

If you’re interested, audio from the meeting is available here.
