Stanwood: New face on City Council

Larry Sather, a city planning commissioner, was appointed last week to the Stanwood City Council. The council seat was vacated by Jenna Friebel, who was elected last November.

Along with Sather, those interviewed for the position were former councilman Arne Wennerberg and Paul Schonberg.

Sather is a community college speech teacher. He has resigned from the planning commission and is set to be sworn into office Oct. 11. Sather’s appointment is effective through November 2013, when he would need to run for election in order to complete the council term, which expires in November 2015.

Mayor Dianne White needs to fill the planning commission vacancy left by Sather’s appointment. For information, call 360-629-2181

Also, Yvonne Washburn has been appointed to the planning commission to fill the seat vacated by Tyler Murphy, whose term expires in December 2014.
