Shorewood volleyball team comes from behind to beat Meadowdale
"Meadowdale is always a great competitor. My girls always get a little mentally psyched out before the match," said Shorewood head coach Jen Chartrand. "Emotionally it was a big celebration as a team. They pulled together and wanted it so bad."
That desire manifested as jitters early when the Scots had trouble passing and couldn't get going offensively, but the passing picked up in the second set and allowed Shorewood to start getting in some digs, according to Chartrand. Many of these came from Joely Shepard and Delaney Hopen, who combined for 51.
Shorewood blew a lead in the third set and won the fourth by just two points.
"We knew we had to come back and play aggressively so we could get into the fifth set," said Chartrand. "We found some open spots in their court. We had a couple good shots into the middle, a couple of shots down the line. A big play, a good block can shift momentum. It could have gone either way."
The Scots led by four at one point in the fifth set, but a couple of hitting errors let Meadowdale back in it. "I didn't feel confident until the very end," said Chartrand. "It was a tough fight, it felt good for the girls to finish."
