EDMONDS — In a back-and-forth game between Wesco 3A South opponents, Brett Schafer hit a game-winning 28-yard field goal with six seconds left in the game to give Meadowdale a victory on Friday night.
The game-winner was set up by a 56-yard connection from Brian Marty to Ryan White to get the Mavericks within field goal range. Marty would finish 9-for-11 with 136 yards passing on the night.
Meadowdale head coach Mark Stewart described the game by saying, “It was definitely a battle on both sides of the ball, both offensive and defensively.”
Ryan White led the Mavericks receiving corps with 75 yards on five receptions.
Devante Downs led the Hawks rushing attack, going for 90 yards on 21 carries to go along with his two-yard rushing touchdown in the second quarter to make it to pull Mountlake Terrace within seven with six minutes remaining in the second quarter. Beau Kennedy would score three minutes later on an eight-yard run to tie the game at 14. That score would remain intact until Schafer’s game-winning kick to seal the win.
