SEATTLE -- A 76-year-old Edmonds man died Friday afternoon in a boating accident in Puget Sound near Shilshole Bay Marina.

A relative told KIRO 7 TV the man was Donald Hatch.

The man had been in a 16-foot boat that collided with a 44-foot boat at 4 p.m., Seattle police Detective Renee Witt wrote in a press release. The two men in the smaller boat were thrown into the water.

People aboard the larger vessel rescued the men from the water, Witt said. Suquamish Tribal Police, who were fueling their boat nearby, arrived quickly, followed by other agencies.

The second man in the small boat was transported to Harborview Medical Center for treatment, police said.

Authorities had not determined the cause of the crash.
