BNSF freight train derails in northeast Washington
Burlington Northern Santa Fe spokesman Gus Melonas said the derailment occurred Friday night in a remote area about two miles south of Deer Park.
He said two locomotives on the Chewelah-bound train derailed, leaving one on its side and the other leaning. He said six empty box cars derailed but remained upright. Four of them folded like accordions.
There's no immediate word on a cause.
Front-end loaders are working to get the undamaged cars back on track, and new rail ties will be brought in to replace damaged track.
Melonas said the rail line is expected to be back in service by late Sunday or early Monday.
