Lotz injured, yet another goalie acquired
I don't have anything specific on Lotz's condition yet, other than that he's not dressing tonight. I have a dubious report that he's considered week-to-week, whatever that means.
Cotton spent last season as the back-up to Calvin Pickard, which means he didn't play a lot. The 6-foot-4, 184-pound native of Vancouver, B.C., went 0-8-0-0 in 17 games with a 4.91 goals against average and .876 save percentage. He was beat out for the back-up spot in Seattle this season and was just hanging around as the T-birds' third goaltender. He has yet to appear in a game this season.
I'm guessing this deal was made specifically because Cotton was close enough that he would be able to dress tonight. I haven't been told the conditions of the pick yet, but if I were the T-birds I wouldn't be counting on receiving that sixth rounder.
Cotton becomes the third goaltender Everett has traded for since July. Overager Brandon Anderson, acquired from Brandon, has never been to Everett and is currently playing in the pros. Cole Holowenko, acquired from Prince Albert, will take over the primary duties while Lotz is out.
This is also the first trade in 10 years (67 prior trades by my count, including three that were voided) between Everett and I-5 rival Seattle. I guess it takes desperate circumstances to get these organizations to deal.
