LAKE STEVENS -- A married couple and their infant escaped a fire Sunday afternoon that caused heavy damage to their home in the northwest part of town, Lake Stevens fire officials said.

Crews rushed to a two-story wooden house on the 9000 block of 17th Place NE around 1:20 p.m. to find flames coming from the roof and walls, Battalion Chief Bruce Huston said. Firefighters spent about 20 minutes bringing the flames under control.

Marysville and Getchell firefighters assisted.

Fire officials found nothing suspicious about the fire during their initial investigation, but by late Sunday afternoon had yet to pinpoint the cause, Huston said.

The American Red Cross was arranging aid for the family.
