Fire at Edmonds home for second time in month

EDMONDS -- A home southeast of downtown sustained extensive damage Sunday morning after it caught fire for the second time in a month, Snohomish County Fire District 1 said.
Nobody was injured, but estimated damage was $250,000, Fire District 1 spokeswoman Leslie Hynes said.
Neighbors called 911 at 4:32 a.m. to report the fire at the single-story house in the 1000 block of Ninth Avenue S.
When crews arrived, flames were coming through the roof and windows, Hynes said. Renters had recently moved out, so no one was at home. The homeowners were fixing up the house so they could move in.
It took about 30 firefighters from District 1, Shoreline and Lynnwood about 40 minutes to bring the flames under control, Hynes said. Afterward, they continued to manage hot spots that flared up in the attic and wall.
Investigators were unsure of what caused Sunday's fire or another reported at the same house at 6:51 a.m. Sept. 18, Hynes said. In the earlier incident, a small fire started on a rear exterior wall of the house. A neighbor and the tenant put it out before firefighters arrived, keeping damage minimal.
