Carry that weight: A couple from Helsinki, Finland, won the North American Wife Carrying Championship at a ski resort in Maine, by finishing a course that included hurdles, sand traps and a water hole in 52.58 seconds.
The couple won the wife’s weight in beer and five times her weight in cash, $530. After drinking his wife’s weight in beer, she then carried him back to their hotel room.

Don’t know much about history: On this day in 1945, President Harry S. Truman announced that the secret of the atomic bomb would be shared only with Canada and Britain (Today in History, Page A2).
In exchange for the plans for the atomic bomb, Canada agreed to share with the U.S. the “Caramilk secret” for getting gooey caramel in a chocolate bar and Britain agreed to send four rock-and-roll stars to be named later.
