Ryan Chynoweth dealt after requesting trade

The Silvertips were compelled to trade one of their young players today, sending 17-year-old center Ryan Chynoweth to Tri-City in exchange for a conditional pick in the 2014 bantam draft. The pick begins as a fifth rounder, but could rise to as high as a third rounder depending on how Chynoweth performs during the 2013-14 season. Tips general manager Garry Davidson said Chynoweth requested the trade.

Chynoweth appeared to be a part of Everett's future. He was Everett's top selection in the 2010 bantam draft, being picked with the second selection of the second round. He was the only 16-year-old forward who lasted the entire season with the team last season, notching two goals and six assists in 66 games.

However, Chynoweth spent the early part of the season on Everett's fourth line, going pointless in four games. Davidson said Chynoweth came to him last week with the trade request, expressing concerns about his role with the team this season as rookies Tyler Sandhu, Ty Mappin and Carson Stadnyk seemed to pass Chynoweth on the depth chart.

Chynoweth was a healthy scratch in both of Everett's games over the weekend, and Davidson said that was a result of the trade request. Davidson also said he had no intention of trading Chynoweth prior to the trade request.

This is an unfortunate development for the Tips. Chynoweth may not have exhibited much star power, but he had the appearance of being a player who could play a valuable role, particularly down the road. This leaves Everett's 1995-born forward group extremely thin, with Stadnyk being the only one on the current roster.

Everett's roster now stands at 25 players: 14 forwards, eight defensemen and three goalies.
