Having outlasted the rest of the country as the nation's last unbeaten team, the University of Washington women's volleyball team moved up one spot in the rankings to No. 2 Monday.
The Huskies most recent victory came against Colorado in the form of a 3-0 sweep on Sunday. The Huskies jumped out to an early lead in each of the three sets and won by set scores of 25-17, 25-16 and 25-22. Krista Vansant's 13 kills led the Huskies.
The Huskies (15-0) still trail top-ranked Penn State (16-1) in the American Volleyball Coaches Association poll. The Nittany Lions, whose lone loss came at the hands of an Oregon State team that is tied for seventh place in the Pacific-12 Conference, received 47 of a possible 60 first-place votes. UW got 12 first-place votes, while the other vote went to No. 5 Oregon, which suffered its first loss of the season at Stanford on Friday night.
Oregon plays host to Washington on Sunday, two days after the Huskies play Oregon State in Corvallis. A Washington sweep could put the Huskies, ranked No. 14 in the preseason, atop the national poll this time next week.
