Lee and Pat Howell, whose home is in the Northwest neighborhood, won the Marian Krell Award, the top honor in the 2012 Monte Cristo Awards given out by the city of Everett each year to past Monte Cristo Award winners who consistently maintain their properties.

  • Neena Blackwell of the Delta neighborhood won a Pride of the Neighborhood award.

Everett homeowners who take exceptional care of their properties and those who have remodeled and rejuvenated their homes will be honored Thursday night, for the 18th year, at the 2012 Monte Cristo Awards ceremony.
Of the more than 130 residences and businesses that were nominated by friends and neighbors, 54 were selected by a committee of Everett homeowners and Council of Neighborhoods members.
The recipients are chosen in three categories: Pride of the Neighborhood, Rejuvenation and Transformation, and Friendly Business.

One residence is chosen from previous years' winners to receive the Marian Krell Award, formerly called the Director's Award, for which the owners have consistently maintained their home and landscape over the years.
This year's Marian Krell Award winners are Lee and Pat Howell. The Howells have lived in a tidy brick rambler in the Northwest neighborhood since 1989.
Marian Krell, who died in 2009, was a city council member and longtime neighborhood activist.
She was the force behind the Monte Cristo Awards in 1994 to encourage residents to keep up their homes and beautify their neighborhoods.
Mayor Ray Stephanson and other city officials will present the awards, which are plaques to be placed on the fronts of residences, at the ceremony at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the Everett Performing Arts Center, 2710 Wetmore Ave. It's free and the public is invited to attend.
