EDMONDS — An Edmonds man died Wednesday in an apartment fire that displaced 35 residents overnight, officials said.
The fire was reported around 4:50 p.m. Wednesday at the Edmonds Highlands Apartments in the 23000 block of Edmonds Way.
Fire crews could see smoke and flames when they arrived at the sprawling complex, Snohomish County Fire District 1 spokeswoman Leslie Hynes said.
Twelve units, including the one where the man died, are part of the same building.
The man’s age was not immediately available.
At least four units were damaged by the fire and others likely sustained water or smoke damage, Hynes said.
All 12 units lost power overnight.
The Snohomish County Chapter of the American Red Cross helped the displaced residents find a place to stay, Hynes said.
Investigators were trying to determine the cause of the fire Wednesday night.
A damage estimate was not immediately available.
About 30 firefighters battled the blaze.
Fire district 1 firefighters received help from Shoreline and Lynnwood fire crews.
