Front Porch: Koster, DelBene at Snohomish High School

Republican John Koster and Democrat Suzan DelBene, who are dueling for a seat in Congress, will make a rare joint appearance Saturday morning at Snohomish High School
The two candidates are among nearly two dozen candidates for state and federal offices expected at the breakfast event in the school cafeteria hosted by the senior class.
Other candidates scheduled to appear include Rob McKenna, the Republican candidate for governor; Democratic Congressman Rick Larsen and his Republican opponent, Dan Matthews; and Richard Sanders and Sheryl Gordon McCloud who are battling for a seat on the state Supreme Court.
Supporters and opponents of initiatives to end a state ban on charter schools and preserve a state law allowing gay marriage also will be present, according to organizers.
Breakfast will be served starting at 7:30 a.m. with candidates and representatives of ballot measures taking the stage to deliver brief comments beginning at 8:15 a.m. The event runs through 10 a.m.
When not on stage, candidates will be chatting with students, parents and anyone else who shows up.
The free event is open to the public. Breakfast, which is optional, is free for students and $5 for adults. Snohomish High School is at 1316 Fifth St., Snohomish.

Fire district hosts open house: Snohomish County Fire District 7 in Clearview plans a 27th annual Open House celebration from noon to 4 p.m. Sunday.
The free open house is held as part of Fire Prevention Month, district spokeswoman Autumn Waite said.
The event is set to include tours of fire vehicles, demonstrations of how people are cut from cars after crashes, a fire safety trailer interactive exhibit and a visit from Topper, the Snohomish County arson dog.
The open house will be at district headquarters, 8010 180th St. SE, Snohomish.
