LYNNWOOD — People in south Snohomish County have two new opportunities to help in-need mothers and their babies.
The Lynnwood police and fire departments are collecting diaper donations as part of a new partnership with a Puget Sound parenting advocacy group.
A fundraiser run for the group also is planned this weekend in Bothell.
The Lynnwood departments are working with Step By Step, an organization that serves at-risk mothers and babies in Snohomish, King and Pierce counties, Lynnwood police spokeswoman Shannon Sessions said.
The group works to help women have healthy deliveries, learn positive parenting skills and make their homes safe for children, Sessions said.
“It is Lynnwood’s honor to host a diaper drive to help this great cause in a small way,” she said.
Donation bins for diapers are located at the Lynnwood Police Department, 19321 44th Avenue W., which is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily, and in the lobby of Fire Station 15 at the corner of 44th Ave. W. and 188th St. SW.
The most needed diapers are newborn-size and size-1, Sessions said.
The organization also plans a Little Steps Big Dreams fundraising 5k walk and run starting at 8 a.m. Saturday at Blyth Park in Bothell.
