JOINT BASE LEWIS-MCCHORD -- Maj. Gen. Stephen Lanza took command Wednesday of the reactivated 7th Infantry Division at Joint Base Lewis-McChord.

The Army added the two-star general to improve oversight of five combat brigades, including three Stryker brigades.

The News Tribune reports Lanza said the focus would turn to the Pacific after the deployments to Afghanistan.

The Army last had a division headquarters at then-Fort Lewis in 1991. Its chain of command now is the same as the Army's two other largest posts, Fort Bragg in North Carolina and Fort Hood in Texas.
