MARYSVILLE -- A man was arrested at gunpoint in Marysville on Friday afternoon after a dispute over money ended with a stab wound to another man's chest.

@Body copy 2:Although the victim was expected to recover, it was a close call, police Cmdr. Robb Lamoureux said in a prepared statement.

"We are fortunate the injuries were not life-threatening; a couple of inches in either direction and we could be investigating a homicide," he said.

The incident began about 1:30 p.m. in a wooded area near the 11200 block of 41st Drive NE. A homeless man, 46, told police he was stabbed in the chest after he tried to collect $100 from a man who had taken the cash from him the week before.

Police converged on the area and spotted the suspect riding a bicycle. The man, 44, also is homeless. He was expected to be booked in Snohomish County Jail for investigation of first-degree assault.

After identifying his attacker, the stabbing victim was taken by ambulance to a local hospital.
