SULTAN — Alex Galgano ran for 225 yards and four touchdowns and Archbishop Murphy amassed 360 yards on the ground in a Cascade Conference win over Sultan.
“They were able to control the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball,” said Sultan head coach Ben Murphy. “The big key was their offensive line, they’re a bunch of road graders and they pushed us around.”
Hans VanderWel added 53 yards rushing and scored on a 10-yard run to give the Wildcats a 7-0 lead in the first quarter. From there Galgano took over, scoring on runs of 17, 10, 12 and 1 yard to help Archbishop Murphy dominate time of possession 29:52 to 18:08.
Sultan’s lone score came on an Antonio Rivas 22-yard TD pass to Steven Branham, but the Turks had trouble dealing with the first rainy conditions of the season. Sultan had seven fumbled snaps, with the Wildcats recovering one, and the miscues also limited the Turks rushing attack to just 61 yards on 27 carries.
“We couldn’t hold on to the ball, we hadn’t seen rain for four months,” said Murphy. “We didn’t know what to do.”
