JOINT BASE LEWIS-MCCHORD -- Five soldiers with traumatic brain injuries received Purple Heart medals on Monday in a ceremony at Joint Base Lewis-McChord.
Northwest Public Radio reported that they were injured in Afghanistan in blasts while trying to clear routes of buried and hidden bombs.
The Army issued new standards last year for awarding the Purple Heart to soldiers with brain injuries.
