WR Doug Baldwin out with a high ankle sprain

This hasn't been the best year for Doug Baldwin in the injury department, and the latest news isn't good for the Seahawks receiver.

Baldwin suffered a high ankle sprain in Thursday's loss to San Francisco, and will not play this week, Pete Carroll said. Baldwin missed most of the preseason with a hamstring injury, then chipped his teeth in the season opener, requiring oral surgery. He has also been limited this season by a shoulder injury that kept him out of the Monday Night game against Green Bay. Baldwin's absence will mean an increased role for Charly Martin. Golden Tate can also move into the slot, which could open up more opportunities for Braylon Edwards.

"Doug’s not going to make this game," Carroll said. "Unfortunately he’s going to be a couple of weeks anyway. That’s a change for us, because we were just getting him going, we felt like he was coming around. We’ll get him back when we can. Charlie Martin will fill in, we’ll see Golden do some things in his place to do the void there."

The news is better for linebacker Malcolm Smith, who suffered a concussion on kick coverage. He has been cleared, Carroll said, and will practice fully today. Carroll also said that DT Jason Jones is dealing with a sore ankle, though he didn't give any prognosis other than to say they'll "slow him up in practice" today.
