“The Addams Family”: They’re creepy and they’re kooky, they’re altogether ooky, and they’re at the 5th Avenue Theatre.
They are the Addams Family: Morticia, Gomez, Fester, Wednesday, Pugsley, Grandma and Lurch, all bringing their bizarro world of weirdness to life for their Seattle premiere.
With the book by Marshall Brickman and Rick Elice and music and lyrics by Andrew Lippa, the first national tour of this new musical is based on the funky family created by cartoonist Charles Addams.
This musical features an original story starring Wednesday who, as girls do, goes against her parents’ hopes and dreams and falls in love with a young, respectable man. Of course, neither Gomez nor Morticia have met this suitor, but Wednesday confides in her dad about her love and begs him not to tell mom.
Keeping a secret from his beloved Morticia — sacre bleu! But Gomez must.
Then, in classic comic style, all bets are off when the respectable boyfriend— and his parents — comes to dinner, according to press material about the show.
“The Addams Family” will be presented at 7:30 p.m. Tuesdays and Wednesdays; 8 p.m. Thursdays and Fridays; 2 and 8 p.m. Saturdays and 1:30 and 7 p.m. Sundays through Nov. 11 at The 5th Avenue Theatre, 1308 5th Ave., Seattle.
Single tickets start at $35. Go to www.5thavenue.org or call 206- 625-1900.
“The Red Velvet Cake War”: This comedy is set in the South and focuses on three Verdeen cousins: Gaynelle, Peaches and Jimmie Wyvette.
The cousins decide to throw a family reunion on the hottest day of July, in the middle of Texas tornado season. To make matters worse, add in a one-eyed suitor declaring his love, a neighbor’s pet devouring everything edible in sight, and a wager on who bakes the best red velvet cake.
This family reunion just went from hot to hilarious.
The Reunion Theatre Group is opening its fall season with what they are hoping is a side-splitting romp.
“The Red Velvet Cake War” opens at 8 p.m. Friday in the playhouse in the Everett Music Hall, 1402 Everett Mall Way, Everett. The theater is in the old movie theater at the Everett Mall down the hall from Macy’s inside entrance.
Shows are 8 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays and 2 p.m. Sundays through Nov. 11.
Tickets are $13, $10 for students and seniors and $8 for groups of eight or more with advance reservations. Go to www.brownpapertickets.com or call 425-737-7290 or make reservations at www.reuniontheatregroup.org.
