Run with the dogs: The new Tails and Trails Dog Park in Mukilteo opens with a special grand opening celebration planned for 10 a.m. Saturday at 1301 Mukilteo Blvd. Dogs are invited to come dressed in Halloween costumes for a contest to be judged by Mayor Joe Marine. Other activities also are planned. The ¾-acre park was built over the summer on city-owned land in Japanese Gulch, between Fifth and Ninth streets.
Create a monster: Teens get a chance to make monsters scary, weird or adorable in a program planned from 4 to 5:30 p.m. Friday at the Mountlake Terrace Library, 23300 58th Ave W. Artist Prema Jones will help youths create the monsters out of felt, faux fur and feathers. The creations can be cuddled with, given away to friends or even worn if a hair clip is added. A selection of monster books will also be on display. All supplies provided. For information, call 425-776-8722.
Have a beer: People are invited to enjoy a beer and even learn to make one themselves at the second annual Snohomish BrewFest on Friday and Saturday. There will be other activities as well, including the carving of a 905-pound pumpkin and a bike ride. Read more in our story here.
Go for a ride: Back Country Horsemen Traildusters group is hosting its 15th annual prize ride Saturday morning at Pilchuck Tree Farm east of Stanwood. Turn at Harvey Creek Road off Highway 9 and follow the signs.The ride includes a costume contest for horses and riders at 1 p.m. and prizes at 2:30 p.m. More info here.
See the bands: The Puget Sound Festival of Bands starts at 8 a.m. on Saturday at Everett Memorial Stadium. Thirty of the top marching bands in the Northwest will be competing. Competitions go on all day, with finals beginning at 6 p.m. Find more information here.
