EVERETT — A man staying at a Paine Field hotel died early Friday morning after jumping from a fourth-floor window, officials said.
Deputies from the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to the hotel around 3 a.m. Friday to investigate a reported assault.
When they arrived, they found a woman in one of the hotel rooms who had been attacked by the man, sheriff’s office spokeswoman Shari Ireton said.
The woman was taken to a nearby hospital with serious, but not life-threatening, injuries.
The suspect barricaded himself in a fourth-floor hotel room when deputies attempted to take him into custody.
He threw a table through the room’s outside window, then jumped from that window, sustaining critical head injuries, Ireton said. He died before medics could arrive
The identity of the man wasn’t immediately known, but he and the woman were both believed to be staying at the hotel, Ireton said.
The woman, 39, is from California.
It is not believed they were related or staying together, Ireton said. No weapons were involved.
The man’s identity, age and cause of death will be released by the Snohomish County Medical Examiner’s Office, Ireton said.
Ireton said she couldn’t speculate on why the man jumped.
“It was not clear if he was trying to escape or what,” she said.
Witnesses told deputies that the pair met that evening and somehow ended up together “and then the assault occurred,” Ireton said.
