Seattle 3, Everett 2

TALKING POINTS

Everett played a decent game tonight in front of a sold out crowd at Comcast Arena. However, Seattle scored goals at the most opportune times, then received some big stops from goaltender Justin Myles late to hold on. The victory was Myles’ first in the WHL.

There weren’t a ton of premium scoring chances either way in the first two periods. Then the third period was all Everett after Seattle went ahead 3-2, but the Tips couldn’t find the tying goal.

Austin Lotz made his first start in net for Everett since suffering a groin injury on Oct. 6. He’s still shaking off the rust, though he made some big saves early in the third period with the Tips trailing 2-1.

I have yet to witness an Everett victory this season, after missing Friday night’s game against Spokane, so I suspect I’m on the verge of being barred from entering the doors.

And if anyone noticed the scoreboard swaying during the second period, it may have been caused by the 7.7 earthquake that took place off the B.C. coast right around that time.

TURNING POINT

Everett had just tied it 2-2 midway through the third period when Seattle regained the lead a mere 59 seconds later, Connor Honey taking advantage of a turnover and using defenseman Connor Cox as a screen as he sniped the top corner.

HIT OF THE DAY

I didn’t see the game’s best hits very well because they were all along the near boards, which obscured my view. I might have to change this category because I’m whiffing way too often.

THREE STARS

First star: Honey. Two goals, including the game winner.

Second star: Ryan Murray, Everett. One assist, this was the first time this season I saw him look fully like himself.

Third star: Alexander Delnov, Seattle. One goal, impressive move on his short-hander, won a lot of faceoffs.

The Herald’s honorable mention: Myles. 27 saves, shut the door late. I also want to mention that this was the best game I’ve seen Stathis Soumelidis play for Everett.
