So Friday night the Tips scored six goals and won their first home game of the season in a wild contest. But there were several other things that happened that bear mentioning:
- Prior to the game, Zach McPhee left the team. The big 19-year-old winger from Vernon, B.C., decided he wanted to go back to playing junior A -- he played previously for the Vernon Vipers of the BCHL, but it's been suggested his rights might have been moved. McPhee was pointless in 11 games with the Tips this season playing primarily on the fourth line, and his role as a 19-year-old probably played a significant role in his decision.
McPhee's departure leaves the Tips barebones up front as they now have just 12 forwards on the roster. Of course, the Tips are still carrying nine defensemen, so they have some bodies available to fill out the lineup.
- However, one of those defensemen is out indefinitely. Nick Walters caught Spokane leading scorer Mitch Holmberg up high with a hit Friday, a hit that left Holmberg wobbly. Walters only received a roughing minor on the play, but he has been suspended by the league under supplemental discipline. The length of the suspension is still to be determined. It's possible this one could be a long one.
- Tips leading scorer Joshua Winquist was a late scratch last night and won't play tonight. I'm told Winquist, who tried taking the warm-up Friday, has some sort of muscle issue.
Anyway, on to tonight's lineup notes:
Scratches: Walters, Lofthouse, Winquist, Adam.
Notes: Everett skates a player short because of injuries and suspensions, despite getting winger Lucas Grayson back from his five-game suspension. Defenseman Nick Walters is suspended. Wingers Joshua Winquist and Trent Lofthouse are both out with what I'm told are minor physical ailments. Defenseman Austin Adam is out with a broken hand. Goaltender Austin Lotz makes his first start since suffering his groin injury on Oct. 6.
Scratches: Wolf, Troock, Alos.
Notes: Seattle plays without key winger Branden Troock, who's been spotted with his arm in a sling. Center Tyler Alos is out with an upper-body injury.
