Imperfect storm

Jim Forman's looking for his parka: As most of the East Coast braced for the full force of a superstorm, residents in coastal areas were urged to clear out and New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie closed Atlantic City's 12 casinos for only the fourth time in nearly 35 years.

Denied blackjack tables and slot machines, gamblers began placing bets on how long Weather Channel reporters could yell into their microphones before being swept out to sea.

Raleigh, who brought tobacco back from the New World and popularized it in England, was allowed to choose the method of execution, selecting beheading over lung cancer.
