Rally celebrates Edmonds schools
Students, staffers and parents from the Edmonds School District on Oct. 13 held a “Celebrate Schools” rally at Alderwood mall.
The event featured student art, robotics demonstrations and music by school bands. It also included a 5K run and walk that raised more than $16,600 for the Edmonds Public Schools Foundation.
Arlington Rotary funds exchange students
Two students are being sponsored by the Arlington Rotary Club as part of the Rotary International Youth Exchange Program.
Samantha Arndt, a sophomore at Lakewood High School, received the yearlong sponsorship to study in Lille, France, while Sandra Maroto Lombao, who is from Madrid, Spain, is a junior at Arlington High School.
Applications for 2013-14 exchange program are being accepted until Friday for students at Arlington, Lakewood and Darrington high schools.
Families interested in hosting an exchange student for a short-term of about three months can contact A.J. Chase, exchange program leader at 360-631-2484.
Aces student receives Rotary recognition
Yesenia Guzman was named September Student of the Month by the South Everett-Mukilteo Rotary Club.
Guzman attends Aces High School where she was nominated for the award by the teachers. She was presented with a plaque in recognition of her academic achievements and leadership activities.
Born in Mexico City, Yesenia moved with her family to Everett when she was 3-years-old. She is now in her second year at Aces and is part of the veterinary assisting program at Sno-Isle Tech Skills Center.
Yesenia has interned at Valley Vet Animal Clinic and continues to volunteer at Sno-Isle, taking care of the clinic’s animals on-campus during the evening hours.
After graduation, Yesenia plans to pursue a career as a veterinary technician but is also considering a career as a doctor of veterinary medicine. Her aspirations include a specialty in emergency and critical care. She plans to graduate in June.
Lake Stevens honors students, staffers
Students and staffers in the Lake Stevens High School were recognized on Oct. 10 by the school board.
Students of the month are: Larisa Dreft and Cody Vigoren, 10th grade; Molli Drivdahl and Brian Hoelzel, 11th grade; and Andrew Moe, Jared Rahn and Nicollette Rindero, 12th grade, Lake Stevens High School; Andrew Eichenberger and Ashley Richardson, eighth grade; Peter Condyles and Kim Morgan, ninth grade, Cavelero Mid High School; Austin Anderson and Cassandra Galvez, sixth grade; Theodore Havener and Myka Martin, seventh grade, Lake Stevens Middle School; Brendan Ascher and Serena Wilson, sixth grade; Henesee Jacob and Derik Myers, seventh grade, North Lake Middle School.
Lake Stevens School District employees were honored for creating a positive, caring and productive school environment.
The recipients of the Apple Award for September are Bob Guertin, resource officer at Lake Stevens High School; Jesse Bloomberg, teacher and counselor at Lake Stevens High School; Heather Beg, teacher at Lake Stevens Middle School; Amy Beth Cook, superintendent for Lake Stevens School District.
