Rockets waive Brockman

HOUSTON — The Houston Rockets waived forwards Jon Brockman and JaJuan Johnson, guards Gary Forbes and Shaun Livingston and guard/forward Lazar Hayward on Monday.

The 25-year-old Brockman played at Snohomish High School and the University of Washington, The 6-foot-7, 255-pound Brockman and Livingston were both acquired by the Rockets in a trade with the Milwaukee Bucks on June 27, helping Houston move up to the 12th pick in the 2012 NBA Draft. The Rockets used the pick to select Jeremy Lamb.

Brockman suffered an injury to his right eye while training in September. He was hospitalized but did not require surgery. Brockman was unable to report to the Rockets’ training camp because of the injury.

The 6-foot-7 Brockman, Washington’s career leader in rebounds (1,283) and second-leading scorer, was a second-round pick by Portland (38th overall) in the 2009. The Trail Blazers traded the rights to Brockman to the Sacramento Kings for the rights to Jeff Pendergraph.

Brockman played 52 games for the Kings in the 2009-10 season, averaging 2.8 points and 4.1 rebounds per game. In July of 2010 Brockman was traded to the Milwaukee Bucks for Darnell Jackson and a 2011 second-round pick.

Brockman played two seasons for the Bucks. In 2010-11 he played 63 games, averaging 2.2 points and 2.9 rebounds per game. Brockman played 35 games in 2011-12, averaging 1.1 points and 2.1 rebounds per game.

Brockman, Johnson and Forbes all had guaranteed contracts for this season worth a combined $3.6 million.
