Don't rule out Doug Baldwin just yet

On Monday, Pete Carroll said "It's going to be a long-shot" that receiver Doug Baldwin, who missed last week's game with a high-ankle sprain, would play this week. Well apparently Baldwin disagreed with that assessment, and as you can see in the above comment he made on Twitter Wednesday morning.

And later Wednesday, Carroll admitted that Baldwin, "Looks better than we expected" and does have a chance to get back this week.

If Baldwin could make a quick return from that injury, it would be very good news for the Seahawks, not just because Baldwin is an important part of their offense, but also because they are potentially pretty thin at that position. Already Ben Obomanu has been placed on injured reserve with a wrist injury. Carroll said Obomanu could have come back soon and played with a cast on his wrist, but that wouldn't work out too well for a receiver. Braylon Edwards, who was a game-day scratch with a swollen knee, is also an unknown. That leaves the Seahawks with four healthy receivers: Sidney Rice, Golden Tate, Charly Martin and rookie Jermaine Kearse, who was signed off of the practice squad Tuesday. If Baldwin and Edwards were to both miss this week's game against Minnesota, Carroll said the Seahawks would be OK heading into that game with only four receivers suited up.

As for other injured players, Carroll said a decision has still not been made on CB Walter Thurmond, who has to come off of the Physically Unable to Perform list next week by either being added to the active roster, placed on injured reserve or released. Thurmond will get significant work in practice this week, Carroll said.

Asked about defensive tackle Jason Jones, who missed last week's game with an ankle injury, Carroll only offered, "I don't know. We're going to try."
