EVERETT -- More help from Snohomish County is on the way to the East Coast, which continues to be pounded by wind, rain and flooding from the remnants of Sandy.
The Snohomish County Chapter of the Red Cross sent two people to the storm zone on Monday, and planned to send three more today, regional director Chuck Morrison said.
The local chapter plans on eventually sending more help still, he said.
"We will be sending as many as we can," he said. "We're sending out the word to volunteers that we have plenty of opportunities ... "
Volunteer Steven Place, of Everett, is headed to White Plains, N.Y., today to work in a shelter, Morrison said.
Cherrin Pugmire, of Snohomish, is being deployed to New Brunswick, N.J., to help with radio communications, as is Yvonne Smith of Edmonds, a nurse.
The Snohomish County Public Utility District is sending 10 crew members to New Jersey to help with repairing power lines, spokesman Neil Neroutsos said. More than 2 million people in the state are without electricity, according to the Associated Press.
The PUD originally hadn't planned on sending any of its crews because of regional differences in work approaches and training, but a request came in on Tuesday morning for help, Neroutsos said.
The two five-person crews will fly to Newark and will be assigned vehicles provided by Central Jersey Power, a division of First Energy, Neroutsos said.
