Deputy shoots man with knife in Lewis County

CHEHALIS — A Lewis County sheriff's deputy shot and killed a man early Thursday in the town of Boistfort, about 20 miles southwest of Chehalis.
The sheriff's office said the deputy was on patrol just after midnight when he stopped to check on a parked car. The man inside was bleeding from what appeared to be self-inflicted cuts.
The sheriff's office said when the deputy tried to talk, the man lunged out of the car with a large knife and the deputy was forced to shoot. The 64-year-old Napavine man died shortly after medics arrived.
A regional law enforcement team is investigating the shooting.
