Folksinger and balladeer Bob Nelson will perform what he calls his “farewell concert” on Sunday at Everett Public Library.
Nelson’s concert repertoire will include “Lord Randall” and how that song morphed into “Billy Boy.” He will also play a mother’s warning song, “Come On All You Virginia Girls,” along with “Sweet Betsy From Pike” and “The Everett Girl.”
Nelson is known for his vital performances as well as his knowledge and love of the songs’ histories. He is known also for his baritone voice and consummate guitar accompaniments.
Nelson heard his first folksong at age 13 and has built up his repertoire of traditional folk songs.
He and his friend Don Firth had six months of fame in the San Francisco Bay Area in 1959 singing in local clubs, according to Nelson’s biography.
Nelson still collected songs over the years and since he retired four years ago, Nelson returned to folk music, performing and joining Stew Hendrickson to revitalize the Pacific Northwest Folklore Society.
Nelson will perform from 2 to 3:30 Sunday at Everett Public Main Library, 2702 Hoyt Ave., Everett.
These free concerts fill up fast so you are encouraged to get there early.
